Sukhbaatar Square
The square itself is further surrounded by two ring roads: Baga Toiruu (the inner or smaller ring) and lkh Toiruu (the outer or greater ring). The major avenue, Peace Avenue (Enkh Taivny Orgon Choloo) borders the south section of the inner ring and runs east-west through the capital. Other avenues cross the smaller ring road on the west side to join the outer circle. Within the inner ring on the north side of the square you will find the Toriin Ordon(State Palace) buildings of the Mongolian parliament, the Ikh khural. A large equine monument to the revolutionary hero Sukhbaatar stands at its centre, at its base the following statement: `If we are able to unite our strength, then for us nothing will be impossible and we shall attain the heights of happiness for all`. However, a huge seated statue of Genghis Khan now dominates the square at the front of the Parliament Buildings. A festival of traditional costumes, the Deel Festival, is held in July every year, taking over the space with music, circus performances and dancing.
