Beginning on 21st of March each year Islamic people worldwide celebrates Nauryz, a festival that marks the beginning of a New Year and first day of the spring. More generally, it signifies a time of spiritual renewal and physical rejuvenation, as well as a spirit of gratitude for blessings and an outlook of hope and optimism Hence Nauryz is considerably significant holiday for Kazakh people, in Mongolia. During Nauryz all the past offences and bad deeds are forgiven and forgotten and people will only think, talk about and wish well being and good fortunes to each other. In the area where majority of Kazakh people are concentrated in Bayan-Ulgii province festival is followed by traditional sports, parade of elaborately dressed locals and singing and dancing. This is the exact day when you will experience tremendous hospitality of Kazakh people.

Important notice
Since the trip will be in the mountainous, a high altitude region of Mongolia, and the weather can be very unpredictable and you might even experience snow, we suggest you bring the following:
- Warm coat
- Gloves
- Scarf
- Woolen hat
- Long underwear / long johns
- Woolen jumper
- Woolen socks
- Sleeping bag (for -10 to -15C)
Please bring the above in addition to your usual gear and items for such a trip. Only Russian jeeps /minivans are available in this region

Khugnu Khaan Mountain
Ulaanbaatar – Khugnu Khaan Natural Reserve 280km
- We will carry onto Khugnu Khaan Nature Reserve today which is a combination of all kinds of natural settings such as mountains, forest, steppe, desert, small lake and mineral water spring all in same location forming unique scenery and representation of different natural zones. The area is perfect for hiking, climbing and horse riding.
- Camel riding on the dunes
- Experience Mongolian hospitality with locals. Today is the Eve of New Year which called Bituun in Mongolian. Families will clean and tidy up their places and makes sure that everything beginning with firewood and ending with food shall be plenty of for the new coming Year. Also for the well being and bounty of the year, everyone shall also feats and fill their stomach.
- Overnight in the nomadic family’s ger (L+D)

First day of the New Year
- Today is very first day of the New Year. On this auspicious day, all family members gathered especially for the occasion, gets up before the sunrise and gives a honorary respect to fist sun of the year. Afterwards, it will be followed by a traditional greeting called “Zolgolt”. During greeting actions elders of the families will praise their blessing and good wishes. After the ceremonial greeting, families with other guest will start the feasting full of dairy products, steamed dumpling and assisted with fermented mare’s milk. On this day you will how Mongolians respect elders, how the celebration goes on and other interesting taboos and customs. Occasionally, families will play different kinds of games too.
- Visit other families in the neighborhood on a horse back.

Khustai national park and Ulaanbaatar
Khugnu Khaan Nature Reserve –via Khustai – Ulaanbaatar 310km
- Today we will start our journey back to Ulaanbaatar. On the way will stop at Khustai National Park.
- Khustai National Park is known as being a home of Przewalski wild horses. Named as “Takhi” in Mongolian, these are the last and only breed of wild horses left in the world. Since its re-introduction, today in the Park, there are some 300 wild horses. Park has a great range of rich ecosystems which definitely creates pleasant environment for numerous wildlife. According to the researchers’ data, there are huge numbers of mammals, birds, reptiles and others.
- Return to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your accommodation. (B+L)
