The area of Terelj lies near Ulaanbaatar, forming outstanding scenery with its forests of larches and pine, its granite rock formations sculpted as creatures, its turbulent rivers and nomad herders living in harmony with vigorous nature on the green lands of country. By just spending a day, you will be able to discover true way of life of nomads, their culture alongside with activities such as horse riding, trekking and visiting a Buddhist meditation center for your leisure. Pay a visit to Giant Chinggis Khaan and statue and overnight with Kazakh ethnic family. An optional day of experiencing horse trekking along the Tuul River thru the vast steppes with abundant contrast of landscapes.

  • Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex

    Ulaanbaatar – Chinggis Khaan Statue Complex 85km

    • This symbolic landmark known as the Zaisan Hill Memorial was erected by the Russians for the honor of unknown soviet soldiers deceased during World War II. A long stretch of almost 300 stairs will take you to the top of the Memorial with the full view of the city.
    • Manzushri Monastery ruins located on the forest covered slopes of Bogd Khaan Mountain range, is a great spot for hiking. Once home of over 300 monks, monastery had about 20 temples and was actively operating until its destruction in 1937.
    • Lunch picnic
    • Visit to Giant Statue of Chinggis Khaan towering with 40ms height on the bank of Tuul River facing symbolically its birthplace, the direction of East. As the legend says, great king found a golden whip, which for nomads meant symbol of immense fortune and victory.
    • Stopover by a Kazakh family. Fine dining with local host family.

  • Terelj National Park

    Horse trekking – Terelj 95km

    • Continue with the journey to Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, a place of granite formations created by natural erosions, slopes covered with pine and larch, fields shattered with colorful wild flowers, pristine rivers and lake.
    • Lunch with a local family
    • Short stop at one of the highlights of the park, Turtle shaped rock and hiking to the Aryapalo Meditation Center.
    • Return back to Ulaanbaatar. Transfer to your accommodation. (B+L)

    Note: Optional stay with families along the banks of Tuul River. Despite the discovery of scenic landscapes, you will have an opportunity to cherish daily activities of the family. You can get hands in herding, gathering livestock, milking and producing traditional dairy together with the host. Later you can also take part in preparing some of the Mongolian dishes for the dinner.
